Sustainability
Why Future Well Control?
The short answer:
Is all about sustainability.
Future Well Control was founded to meet the current need to advance the drilling and completion industry in a more sustainable and environmental friendly way. Our mission is to develop more reliable, sustainable and resilient solutions for drilling and completion.
For more than 100 years the industry has believed that a kick or influx of hydrocarbon will result in an observed gain at the surface. However, this way of thinking will not solve our desire to detect an influx early and keep control of the primary well barrier.
Simultaneous loss of fluid and hydrocarbon influx, may conceal both the kick and loss of fluid. Likewise, thermal effects and gas solubility may also conceal the kick. Estimating the size of a kick or fluid lost by the change in surface volume does not work.
Our Vision
Make the world safer -
We will change the way the oil, gas and thermal industry monitor and maintain the primary well barrier.
Our Values
Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm is important in our
daily business and routine tasks.
When a goal is reached, small or
large, we celebrate with joy.
Improvement
The key to success is knowledge.
We believe in a lifelong learning
process and continuous improvement.
It is allowed to make mistakes as
long as we learn from them.
Care
We care about each other
and the world around us.
We want to make a difference.
We care about health, security,
safety and the environment.
Trust
We firmly believe in being reliable,
truthful and to deliver what we have
promised. However, trust is nothing you are.
Trust is something you may earn
by collaboration and getting
to know each other.
Shareholders
In 2020 MHWirth become a shareholder in Future Well Control. This was a strategic step to get full control and ownership of our patents. We are also pleased to have Pål Skogerbø representing MHWirth in the board.
Last but not least Professor Sigbjørn Sangesland is also part of our team. Professor Sangesland became a shareholder already in 2016, and has long experience from academia and holds several positions in many start-up companies in the energy sector.
Dag Vavik
Chairman of the Board and CEO.
Dag Vavik graduated with a degree in Natural Gas Engineering in 1987. He started as a process engineer and later served as an engineering manager for MHWirth. In 2015 he founded Future Well Control.
Dag Vavik is the inventor of 6 patents.
In June 2020 he defended his PhD thesis with the title;
“Implications of Gas Hydrates in Drilling and Completion -
A Scientific Root Cause Analysis of the Deepwater Horizon Disaster.”
Pål Skogerbø
Associate member of the Board
CTO of MHWirth.
Pål Skogerbø graduated with a Bachelor degree in Mechatronics in 1995 and a Master degree in Process Automation in 1997. In 2007 he became an Equipment Development Manager for Aker Solutions (MHWirth) and has later hold several VP positions in MHWirth. In 2019 he became CTO of MHWirth a position he still holds.
Sigbjørn Sangesland
Member of the board and
Professor at NTNU.
Sigbjørn Sangesland graduated with a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1980. He started as a process engineer for Norwegian Rig Consultants (MHWirth) before he went to Trondheim and completed his Ph.D degree in in Petroleum Engineering in 1986. Sigbjørn has worked most of his career at The Norwegian University of Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.
Today Sigbjørn Sangesland work as a professor at NTNU.
