Some time in the geological time scale the Barents Sea was exposed, causing challenges in todays exploration drilling. In some parts the Barents Sea dissolved carbonates has created a Karstified landscape with large subsurface caves. In Harstad Kulturhus in northern Norway, CEO Dag Vavik gave a presentation called; “Well Control Challenges in Karstified Carbonates” at the SPE Norwegian Arctic Subsurface and Drilling Challenges Workshop. The presentation addressed some of the challenges with drilling and well control operations in these kind of formation.
The workshop also had other companies presenting other challenges typical for this region, but also innovative solutions where presented. The workshop was useful in both perspective of learning and improved collaboration with key players in our industry.
